Day 365
Hi, my name’s Lori. This time last year I decided it would be cool to take a photo everyday for a year. And now it has been a year. Challenge completed! I’m actually rather proud because I didn’t cheat and my photos were always authentic.
This has definitely been one of the best things I’ve ever done. Now I can look back on the best days of my life and remember details that I wouldn’t have otherwise remembered. And the last 365 days have certainly seen some pretty special moments that I would not want to forget.
My life has changed so much. I think I look at things very differently now. Throughout the year I have found myself feeling overwhelmed lots of the time, just at life in general. In both good and bad ways. Sometimes I am so sad for humanity and the all the injustice in the world, and then other times I am moved to tears by the good in people. And then sometimes I’m feeling everything at once and I don’t know what to do. I guess that’s what happens when you leave home and move to a big city and take Arts subjects and realize how insignificant you are and constantly have wonderful people surrounding you.
I thought it was fitting to make my last photo for the project be of the best thing about the past year - my friends! (Plus Elisha! Awkwardly not skilled enough to photoshop her in.)
Apart from rounding up all my favourites to be in this photo, my day consisted of waking up to the fire alarm at 6.30am, catching up on lectures with Matt and playing netball in the evening.
Day 364
A bad day was turned around by a piano singalong with Matt after rockband practices. Missy, Bono and Elton all featured, it was nice. Oh and Adele.
‘I wish nothing but the best for U2..’
‘Cheers Adele, thanks for that.’
Apart from this, my afternoon was spent catching up on work and hanging out with Mum. And finding out Dad had been in and out of hospital overnight. I think he’s okay now.
Day 363
Rockband rehearsals all day and then meeting Ansalie, Mick and their boys at Papa Gino’s with Mum and Lucy for dinner. An unfortunate twist at the end of the night saw Lucy and I hiding in the bathroom together. Don’t ask.
This photo was attempting to capture Tyler sounding amazing in rehearsals. I actually felt so proud of him. Naw.
Day 362
I feel like after a year of living in the city, people in animal costumes playing instruments shouldn’t be such a novelty anymore. But to be honest I still find it amusing. So here’s a penguin playing the bagpipes.
Tonight I had my first shift at Etihad! North Melbourne vs. Essendon. I worked on the turnstiles from 6.15-10pm. It was actually interesting aside from being cold and having sore legs. Best part of the night: You Am I performing during the half time break.
Day 361
This morning Mum and I headed into the city. I had a list of things to get. I didn’t end up getting any of them. But that’s okay. While we were waiting at the tram stop, I got a message from Lucy alerting me to the fact that Hanson are coming to Melbourne in September. And then a truck stopped next to us with ‘Hanson’ in big letters on its side. So that was a pretty rad start to the day. Little did I know it was about to get a million times better.
I got a call from Lucy whilst I was buying unnecessary beanies and jewelry, and this time she was just letting me know that we’d won the Melbourne Josh Pyke Haiku Competition. Josh picked out our entry as one of his faves because it made him ‘feel something’. Djksjjdhdksfksf. And we now get to meet him at the soundcheck and then watch his show at The Forum in May. I barely stopped smiling for the rest of the day. I can’t even explain the excitement.
Eventually I stopped saying ‘oh my god’ and decided it was logical to continue being normal and probably not very logical to stay that shocked and excited for the next few months… so Mum and I continued shopping, met up with Lucy, who randomly won some purple sneakers at the Adidas shop. Then a rather late lunch at the Auction Rooms before going back to Hilda’s and heading to Cho Gao to celebrate Sean’s birthday!
This is Tom and I having our first cocktails! They were delicious and berry flavored. We also got pizzas which were both cheap and tasty. It was a really fun night and a pretty cool place to hang out. I listened to some interesting philosophical conversations between Alex, Tom, Matt and Scott.
Today was actually great. I am so genuinely happy. Lots of exciting news and also just feeling super lucky to have met my amazing friends. Seriously can’t believe how fortunate I am. I love them so much.
Day 360
My afternoon was spent scanning/printing/organizing documents for Lucy’s scholarship application that needed to be sent today (she ran out of time and had to go to work. So I saved the day!) I posted it at uni and then went to my psych tute where we did computer stuff and handed in our lab reports. It finished early! Always a win. So then Elisha and I went to the Hilda’s tute we usually aren’t back in time for, and that finished early too! Mum brought her things over ready to stay tonight, and then disappeared to go see Tim Rogers. Dinner wasn’t all that good, but high table with the boys is always enjoyable. Alex made my night by getting potatoes from another table for me. This evening, I went to a valuable biopsych tute, then went to rockband rehearsal and started learning me some bass!
Day 359
Nothing better than waking up to the sound of chainsaws. At least it gave me some inspiration to go to breakfast. The rest of my day was just scheme, an almost-nap, talking to Tyler Swift, finishing my dev psych lab report and chilling with Russ.
Day 358
Music psych lecture this morning which is always pleasing, then lunch, and a last minute decision to check out Tripod playing at Union House. After a few hours of working solidly on my psych lab report, I had a cheeky nap before my art tute (which was really cool today). It was actually such a good nap, I’m just saying. It was only for an hour, but it felt like so much longer. It made me happy. After dinner, I worked on psych for the rest of the night.
Day 357
Caught up on washing, started work on my developmental psych lab report, went over rockband allocations with Matthew, went to the gym before high table dinner, and then more psych work.
So today might not have been all that awesome, but look! It’s Elisha! And she’s wearing super cute (not to mention warm and cozy) pyjamas!
Day 356
Today I slept in again, listened to a lecture and practiced with the band from lunch till dinner time. This is Tom performing his beautiful rendition of ‘Lori is a Dumb Bitch’ on the synth. What a classic.
Tonight I tried to do some study, but had a visit from Tom, Alex, Manthers and Matt, who thought my room would be a great place to have inappropriate conversations that don’t need my contribution. I gave up on the study before long anyway and had a shower, feeling the presence of Fergie’s judging eyes.
